i think that Lennie's quote is basically telling the reader that Lennie is easily frightened, or gets anxious easily. i think lennie says this because i think he feels threatened by George, who warns him not to have anything to do with the the woman who peeks into their bunk house. "...Don't even look at that bitch. i don't care what she says and what she does. i seen em' poison before, but i never seen no piece of jail bait worse than here" George says this to lennie as soon as she is out of ear shot, to avoid any more trouble. George sees the woman, and is almost immediately infatuated with love for the pretty lady. i think this lady could also symbolize and remind him of the girl who's dress he grabbed in weed, and that it was a pretty girl with a soft and pretty dress on, and all he really wants to do is pet the soft dress, and not hurt anybody.
(39) "Well, he seen this girl in a red dress. Dumb bastard like he is, he wants to touch ever'thing he likes. just wants to feel it." George says. but from the girls' perspective, there she is, just standing thee to cross the street, when some huge dude walks up and grabs onto her clothing. she doesn't know he doesn't want to know her. she doesn't know that he was only enticed by the pretty and potentially soft red dress, she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and so was lennie.
